a touch of classAs Google's reach continues to grow, I'm finding it hard to dislike any of their educational programs. I'd never heard of Google Arts and Culture before. How long has this program existed? I have my background in visual art but I find it hard to marry art with the growing technological trends happening in my class. This program might help bridge the gap. Google arts & cultureGoogle Arts and Culture is an enormous, user friendly database of art, history and architecture. I had a great time looking through their virtual museum. One of my favourite parts was the organize feature. When viewing the work of any of the artists on the site, you can choose to view the work by popularity, chronology, or my favourite, by colour. It's a great way for students to see look critically at art in various ways. Another section I really enjoyed was the focus on architecture . They offer 360 degree views of various famous buildings and sites. Google Arts and Culture: Street View lets you feel like you're really in these amazing places. All you need is a pair of VR glasses. I have a few cardboard pairs in my class. Wow, the street view feature is very cool. I just spent 10 minutes in the Taj Mahal! I think I'll try a palace in Versaille next. I'm really starting to enjoy this now. Another feature is called high definition artwork. It seems that Google has taken images of famous pictures with the most advanced cameras ever. It allows you to zoom in until you feel like your nose would be touching the canvas. I studied a mosaic and I was able to see all of the tiny imperfections in the grout lines. You really should check this out. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/the-medusa-mosaic/FAFtcr7lQAQqbw is it useful?,I think this program is fantastic. Since it's in the Google family you can easily attach any of the stories or artworks to a Google Classroom assignment. I love the museum section. You can send your students, virtually to any museum in the world. What an authentic way to teach art history. Each student can student can study and share works of art that move them, instead of me showing a slide show on what I think they should appreciate. I think this program could really open the minds of a lot of student.
I'm going to try it with my class...Will you?
