Could math get more exciting?I got a hot tip on a math tournament program from some of my first online fans! Math Fights is an online tournament style game for junior level students and beyond. You fight online with other mathletes from around the world in order to win virtual gold. Does this sound more than a little bit nerdy to you? Well it is! Nerdy, but awesome! I signed up with the user name KillerBenji, trying to sound approachable and deadly in equal measure. In a manner of seconds I was off, being linked up with an unknown online opponent. It would have been nice to know where they were from. All I saw was a creepy flying gargoyle and the name that haunted me. Mathbreath. This monster breathes math! Did I stand a chance? My avatar was a white screen with a question mark. I hadn't collected enough gold to earn a cool character design. Mathbreath was obviously no rookie. Math questions appeared between us in quick succession. They seemed to follow no discernible math strand and flickered in and out between question and code. Was this meant to throw me off, or was it a bug in the software. Either way I was rattled. Did I win my first match? No, no I didn't. I sincerely hope that my adversary wasn't the sweet eight year old Swedish boy I feared it might have been. My confidence barely intact I played again, and again. An hour passed and my luck was changing. Take a look at KillerBenji now! I think he looks tough, wise and griseled like a futuristic Clint Eastwood in a space suit. Is it useful? You bet it is. I think this program would be a big hit with some of my overachievers in math. The ones who complete their work quickly and surround me like a plague of locus asking for more challenging tasks. They would love being able to flex their mathematical muscles on the world stage. Anyway, I must get back to fighting. If I earn 5000 more coins I might be able to earn a helmet with horns.
